The majority of Britons want to stay in the EU

A majority of Britons, 51%, now want to stay in the European Union, while 41% expressed their desire to leave this union, contrary to last year's referendum.
The poll was conducted by BMG for the Independent newspaper, which included a sample of 1,400 people.

The poll coincided with the British transition to the second phase of negotiations on its exit from the European Union. This phase will focus on trade.

The progress of the Camp Survival Camp is the largest in this poll since the June 2016 referendum, the newspaper said on Saturday.

Michael Turner, director of research at BMG, said: "Since the last time (for the poll) when the supporters of the exit were dominating, this was in February 2017, and now the result of (the poll) for the continuation of membership in the European Union."

An earlier poll, conducted by the BMG Research Center and published by The Independent, showed that more than 75 percent of Britons believed that negotiations with the EU over Britain's exit from the EU were going badly.

On June 23, 2016, Britain held a public referendum on its continued membership in or withdrawal from the European Union. According to the final data, the majority of Britons voted for the exit of the country from the European Union, by 51.9 percent, and then the then British Prime Minister David Cameron resigned.
